PLANNED: 031PL | TYPE: Roofing Maintenance | CLIENT: Kier | LOCATION: MoJ, Cardiff |

ministry of justice

OVERVIEW:
Greenway was called in for planned maintenance to carry out an annual cleanse and check of the guttering and high level box guttering on a Ministry of Justice building.

INVESTIGATION:
Using suitable access equipment (MEWP), the guttering and fixings were inspected to assess the build-up of leaves, moss and soil, any structural damage to the adjacent building and roof, and general wear and tear.

CHALLENGES:
1. Safe, suitable access for qualified operational engineers was essential. 2. Relevant accreditations for engineers working at height needed to be presented before the works could commence. 3. Access to the building had to be planned around working hours.

SERVICES PROVIDED:
Engineers removed debris from the box guttering and high level gutters. All gutterings were checked for damage and missing or damaged clasps.

The roof slates were checked and a flush test carried out to ensure the water was draining correctly in all guttering. A comprehensive report was provided to the client.

OUTCOME:
The gutters were all cleansed safely and in a timely fashion, with no impact on normal working hours at the Ministry of Justice. The waste was removed from the site and disposed of accordingly. The guttering will be serviceable for another 12 months – if not cleaned regularly, this can contribute to poor drainage integrity, possible internal leaks and further damage.
